Geotechnical and Transport Engineering

The Geotechnical Engineering Group is involved in a wide variety of research projects funded principally by the Australian Research Council (ARC) and by industry. These projects are based on numerical, analytical and experimental methods and are carried out by the academic staff individually, and in cooperation with the PhD students in the Group.

The geotechnical group at the UNSW is recognised internationally as one of the leading research groups in the field of unsaturated soils, research and development of practical methods for assessing internal erosion in dams, and risk analysis of dams and slopes.

The Transport Engineering Group at UNSW has a varied research program ensuing directly from the diverse range of research interests of the staff. In line with these research interests, research activities are mostly concentrated in the following areas: transport modelling, simulation and evaluation, operational analysis and optimisation of public transport systems, environmental impacts of road transport and Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS).
