At the recent Research Students Forum 2009 held at the School, our students shared their outstanding research work through poster presentations. PhD researchers Fiona Johnson and Hazel Rowley received Research Excellence Awards, and Luan Huynh and Mohammad Pournaghiazar received prizes for the best poster presentation of their work.
Fiona Johnson’s research area is in hydroclimatology (supervisor A/Prof Ashish Sharma) with a focus on improving General Circulation Models outputs for future drought predictions, while Hazel Rowley’s work is in the area of improving decision making for sustainability – aggregating environmental impacts (Supervisor Dr Greg Peters).
Poster Prize winner Luan Huyn’s research is in structural engineering, involving non linear FE analysis of reinforced concrete members subjected to blast loading (supervisor Prof Steve Foster). Mohammad Pournaghiazar won a Poster Prize for his presentation of his geotechnical engineering topic, Cone saturation in unsaturated porous media, (supervisor Prof Nasser Khalili).
Prizes were awarded by the School’s Research Management Committee.
