To celebrate its 60^th birthday the School hosted a luncheon on Sept 10 for all staff, as well as current Industry supporters.  Many past staff, the ‘Civil Treasures’, were also able to attend and all enjoyed the sparkling service provided by the External Relations Administrator Mary O’Connell and her team of talented fourth year students.  The Design Studio on the fifth floor was transformed by flowers, music, decorations and Rumi poems into a truly celebratory space.

Speakers were Prof David Waite, current Head of School, Em Prof Ross Humphreys who has written a biography of the School’s founding head , Prof Crawford Munro,  and illustrious ‘old boy’ Dr Robert Care, CEO of Arup Australasia. A wonderful meal from organic food caterers WellSpelt was accompanied by the excellent singing of Melanie Pells and her accompanist guitarist Steve. Further entertainment was provided by a slide show detailing highlights of our sixty glorious years and a lighthearted School History Quiz which was won by the table led by Dr Bill Peirson. Not surprisingly for Bill has recently written a brief history of the Water Research Laboratory, which turned fifty this year. Runner up was the Table led by another history buff, Prof Ian Gilbert.
