Why do a PG Coursework Degree

Why do a Postgraduate Coursework Degree?

Whether you choose to undertake a Postgraduate Coursework program straight after your undergraduate studies, a few years into your career or as part of continuous professional development, it will help you to:

  • excel in your field: by extending your knowledge with highly specialised training
  • further develop key transferable skills: such as research and analysis, problem-solving, teamwork, management and communication
  • expand your options: by complementing existing knowledge or retraining to open new career opportunities.

What's the Difference? Postgraduate Coursework Vs Research

POSTGRADUATE COURSEWORK PROGRAMS

A Postgraduate Coursework program is an ideal way to upgrade your qualifications and further your career development. The degree mainly consists of a sequence of lectures, tutorials and labs, and a research component may be incorporated.

While there are 4 levels of qualification, they might not all be available in your area of specialisation.
They are:

  • Master of Engineering Science (MEngSc);
  • Master of Engineering Science (Extension) (MEngSc Ext);
  • Graduate Diploma (GradDip); or
  • Graduate Certificate (GradCert).

The duration of each program varies, and ranges from one semester for a Graduate Certificate to four semesters for a Masters Extension program.

POSTGRADUATE RESEARCH PROGRAMS

A Postgraduate Research program results of an original investigation or design.

You can choose from a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) or Masters Degree by Research (ME or MSc).
A PhD requires a minimum of 3 years full-time study. The Masters by Research program requires a minimum of 1 year full-time study and is designed for students with professional experience wishing to engage in research training but who are not in a position to devote three or more years full-time study required for a PhD.
