Michael Curry - 2007 graduate

From Year 11 I knew I wanted to do some sort of engineering and Civil Engineering seemed like it offered the most options. Studying at UNSW involved a lot of hands-on experience, like making reinforced concrete slabs and doing point load tests by putting up to 15 tonnes of pressure on them in the lab with hydraulic rams.

As for life on campus, I'd definitely recommend it to anyone. You make a lot of friends at uni and I got involved in the inter-college sports competitions, playing rugby, soccer and volleyball so you have a great time while you're studying.

Now I'm working with Parsons Brinckerhoff, one of the world's biggest engineering and project management firms, as a Structural Engineer. So far I've designed two rail bridges – one up near Gunnedah, NSW, for a new train line and one near Parramatta, in western Sydney, on the main suburban rail line.

In the future I want to travel – I've heard demand is very high for structural engineers in the UK. Whatever I do I know I'll keep working as a structural engineer because I love what I’m doing.
