Admission Guidelines

PhD - Doctor of Philosophy

A candidate for registration for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy should hold an Honours degree from the University of NSW or an Honours degree of equivalent standing from another approved university. Applications for admission should be made to the Registrar on the prescribed form at least one calendar month before the commencement of the session in which registration is to begin.

ME/MSc - Master of Engineering/Master of Science

A candidate for registration for the degree of Master of Engineering or Master of Science should hold a Bachelor’s degree usually at Honours level from the University of NSW or from another approved university. Applications for admission should be made to the Registrar on the prescribed form at least one calendar month before the commencement of the session in which registration is to begin.

Admission Process

Email, write or fax the Research Student Coordinator to express your interest in completing a research degree. Contact Research Student Coordinator for assistance with the preparation of your research proposal and nomination of a supervior if applicable.

Research Proposal

Part of the application form requires the prospective student to submit a research proposal (Australian and International students). The Preparing Research Proposal page provides information to help with developing a research proposal.

Australian Students

Australian applicants must lodge their application not later than one month prior to the commencement of the semester in which they wish to enrol. Late applications will be considered if places are available.

International Students

All international applicants must lodge their application with the Postgraduate Section of the UNSW allowing sufficient time for their application and student visa to be processed. International students must also meet the University's English language requirement.

Offer of Acceptance

Once your application is received by the Postgraduate Section it is checked, and sent directly to the School. If your application has been accepted and a supervisor is assigned, an offer will be sent to you by post.
