Engineering & Technical Management Courses:
The Water, Wastewater & Waste Engineering specialisation requires completion of 12-24 UOC of courses selected from the Engineering and Technical Management specialisation.
For the Water, Wastewater & Waste Engineering specialisation we recommend the following Engineering and Technical Management courses:
On approval of the program authority, students with a postgraduate management qualification and/or significant industry experience may be permitted to substitute up to 6 UOC of Engineering and Technical Management courses not on the approved list of courses.
Professional Development Courses: These courses are designed to develop core knowledge and skills for students with limited background in their chosen specialisation.
The maximum requirement is 24 UOC Professional Development courses for an MEngSc. A student who has been awarded a 4 year Bachelor of Engineering deemed to be equivalent to that from UNSW with Honours II/2 in an appropriate discipline may be exempted by the specialisation authority from some or all Professional Development courses.
A selection of professional development courses appropriate to the student's specialisation will be determined by the specialisation authority.
Electives: The Water, Wastewater & Waste Engineering specialisation allows up to 12 UOC of courses from other specialisations offered by the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering. In particular, project management courses may be of interest.
Elective courses from other Schools require the approval of the specialisation authority.
Projects: On approval of the specialisation authority, up to 12 UOC of a project may be undertaken if the student has achieved a credit average in other completed courses. A project involves an independent investigation at an advanced level by the student and may include research, design, feasibility or other analysis requiring integration of knowledge and evaluation across a range of topics in the area of specialisation. Work-based projects are encouraged for practising engineers provided they meet the requirements of advanced independent study. Work-based projects must be approved by the specialisation authority prior to commencement of the project.
Fees: Postgraduate Coursework study at the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering is Commonwealth Supported (previously known as HECS) for commencing local students in 2009.
See https://my.unsw.edu.au/student/fees/CSPG.html
This means significant cost reductions for local students, who are defined as Australian and New Zealand citizens, and Australian Permanent Residents. For 2009 the expected cost of a 6UOC course is $907.50.
See https://my.unsw.edu.au/student/fees/Hecs.html#UNSWStudentContributionChargesfor2009
For International students the cost in 2009 is $2910 per 6 UOC course. See:
https://my.unsw.edu.au/student/fees/Engineering.html
Entry requirements: A student must hold a Bachelor of Engineering from UNSW with Honours II/2 (or equivalent) in an appropriate discipline or an equivalent qualification from another recognised university or tertiary institution in order to be admitted to the MEngSc program. Students with a pass degree may be admitted but may require up to 24 UoC Professional Development courses, depending on the relevant post graduation experience they hold.
