Course Requirement

Attendance
The minimum attendance requirement is 80% of all classes, including lectures and tutorials. You may fail the course if more than 20% absences are recorded. Please see the section on Special Consideration.

Participation
You are required to prepare for, and actively participate in seminar/tutorial discussions.

Completion Of Assignment Work, Quizzes And Examinations
All set work must be completed. You may fail the course if you do not submit all set work to a satisfactory standard.

Notes on Assessment

Plagiarism
Beware! An assignment that includes plagiarized material will receive a 0% Fail, and students who plagiarize may fail the course. Students who plagiarize are also liable to disciplinary action, including exclusion from enrolment.

Plagiarism is the use of another person's work or ideas as if they were your own. When it is necessary or desirable to use other people's material you should adequately acknowledge whose words or ideas they are and where you found them (giving the complete reference details, including page number(s)).

Keep A Copy Of All Written Assignments
Please keep a copy of written assignments (in case your assignment is misplaced).

Submitting Assignments
Assignments should be either handed to the lecturer or tutor personally in class, or in assignment boxes as nominated by the course coordinator. Assignments should NOT generally be handed in at the School office

Late Submission
Late work may not be accepted or assessed, or may be penalized. If you have a good reason for being unable to submit your work on time, it is important that you let your tutor, lecturer or course coordinator know promptly.
There are two kinds of provisions made for students who have good reasons for late submission:

1. Extensions Students who are late with assignments may apply to their lecturer, tutor or course coordinator for an extension. You must apply for an extension before the due date. Extensions may be refused if you do not present documented medical or other evidence of illness or misadventure. An extension is only for a short period, usually no more than a week.

2. Special Consideration Where a longer period is needed, you should apply for Special Consideration (see below).

Special Considerations

You must make formal application for Consideration for the course/s affected as soon as practicable after the problem occurs and within three working days of the assessment to which it refers. The application must be made on the ‘Request for Consideration’ form available from NewSouth Q. The completed application form must be submitted to NewSouth Q.

The School has and will continue to consider such requests with compassion. However, no favourable consideration will be granted to students who have failed mid-session quizzes, assignments and laboratory classes, or, who have failed to attend lectures, laboratory classes and/or tutorials.

Solutions to Problems - Trouble Shooters

The Learning Centre
The Learning Centre provides assistance for study-related problems.

Student Counsellor
The Student Counselling services offer counselling on any problems causing distress or concern. For an appointment ring 9385 5418. Don’t wait to contact student counselling until you need them to support an application for Special Consideration: counselling is offered to assist you to resolve the problems that are affecting your work.

Student Support Services
Those students who have a disability that requires some adjustment in their teaching or learning environment are encouraged to discuss their study needs with the course coordinator prior to, or at the commencement of, their course, or with the Equity Officer (Disability) in the EADU [phone: 9385 4734]. Issues to be discussed may include access to materials, signers or note-takers, the provision of services and additional exam and assessment arrangements. Early notification is essential to enable any necessary adjustments to be made.
