Printer Guide

This guide is designed to aid in the operation of the Kyocera Mita FS-9500DN printers located in rooms 201, 601 and 611 of the Civil and Environmental Engineering building.

Printer Control Panel

The Printer Control Panel is located on the left hand side of each Kyocera Mita FS-9500DN printer, and consists of an LCD Message Display, indicator lights, and several keys (see diagram). The Control Panel provides the user with important information regarding the current status of the printer, and in some cases is needed to operate the printer.

The following is a list of typical messages that you will see on the Message Display, a description of this message's meaning, and perhaps a course of action if needed. Although some of the cases below require operation of the keys located on the Control Panel, it is advised that in all other situations the keys are not pressed

Sleeping
Sleeping Mode

During periods of inactivity the printer will go into “sleep mode” to conserve power. Sending a document to the printer or pressing the green 'Go' key will cause the printer to wake up (the printer may take few minutes to wake up from sleep mode as it will need to warm up it's operating temperature before it can print).

Ready A4 Plain
The Printer is Ready to Print

The printer is ready to print. Ensure that the green 'Ready' indicatorlight on the top left of the panel is lit. If it is not, press the green 'Go'key once.Sending a job to the printer should make it change from the Ready state.If it doesn't change from the Ready state do the following:

1. Check the print queue in MS Windows, and see if your document isstill spooling. Larger documents need more time to spool, and insome cases the printer will sit in the Ready state while this ishappening.

2. Otherwise, check that the print settings are correct.

This message is shown in conjunction with a flashing 'Attention' indicator light, and occurs when the printer is woken up from sleep mode. If you have sent a document to the printer and see this message do not press any keys on the panel, you may just have to wait a few minutes for the printer to reach its operating temperature.

Processing Net A4 Plain
Processing

This is the last message shown before the document is printed. If the Green 'Ready' light is not on at this stage then press the green 'Go' key once.

Load MP Tray Letter
Invalid Paper Size

This message is usually displayed with an audible warning (beeping) and indicates that the printer has received a document of invalid paper size. If you see this message press the ∧ or ∨ keys on the printer panel, so that the printer cycles through alternate paper sizes. Once a valid paper size appears on the Message Display(either A4 or A3) press 'Enter' to print with that paper size.

Print Cancel ? Network
Print Cancel

If the pink 'Cancel' key is pressed while the printer is processing a document, this prompt will be displayed. If you see this message press 'Enter' to cancel the document. Otherwise press 'Cancel' again to clear the message and continue printing.

Other messages will be displayed on the printer Message Display on occasion to indicate printer malfunction or insufficient paper or toner. These are issues that must be dealt with by one of the computing staff present in either room 201a, or 611a.
