How to Update your Computer Security
Staff and students who wish to update their PCs can still do so even if they are not directly connected to the internet. In the following, we provide details as to how you can obtain updates for the latest definition files for Norton Antivirus Corporate Edition (the version that our School runs), and for Win2000/XP. - Go to any of our Labs or RMC PCs and log on to the internet.
- Access:
(a) For NAV Corporate Edition access:
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/download.html
and download the appropriate file to a flash drive or to your X: drive for burning to a CD.
(b) For Windows Access:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/Browse.aspx?displaylang=en
and download the appropriate file to a flash drive or to your X: drive for burning to a CD. - Take your downloaded file to your PC and install.
Notes:- It is important to keep your virus definition files updated.
- If you are not connected to the internet, it is not essential to update your operating system. It can even be the case that such an update may cause existing software to stop running e.g. there have been numerous reported problems with WinXP SP2.
- The manual update is also useful for people with slow or no internet connections at home.
