How to burn a CD or DVD using Nero 7

Nero Startsmart
Step 1 and 2: Start Nero Startsmart
Choose your option for Data CD
Step 3: Choose option "Make Data CD"
Add data to your CD
Step 4: Add data to your CD project
Burn the CD
Step 5 and 6: Start "Burning" process
Choose your option for Data DVD
Step 7: Choose option "Make Data DVD"

Creating a Data CD or Data DVD


Our workstations in Lab611 and 201 are equipped with CD and/or DVD writer. Apart from a built-in CD burning utility that comes with Microsoft XP Operating System, CD and DVD burning software - Nero also installed on the workstations. Here is a short instruction on how to use Nero.

Important: Computing staff can not instruct you on how to burn a CD or give you a blank CD. You must provide you own CD. We will not reimburse the CDs for you if your burning process have failed.

  1. Insert a black CD in your CD drive, a dialog box will appear with options. Choose "Create you own disc using Nero Startsmart". The Nero Startsmart is Your command center to access al Nero Express.
  2. Alternatively you can click on the Nero icon located at either Windows Start Up menu or Windows Desktop.
  3. Make sure that the Option on top middle of the sceen is either CD or CD/DVD. Choose Data > Make Data CD. The Nero Express dialog box will appear for you to add data to your disc.
  4. Choose files or folders you wish to add to your CD. Click "Finished" once you have added all files and folders. You will see list of files and folders you have added to your CD project. Click "Next" to proceed to the next step.
  5. Make sure that your CD drive is correct. You can rename your Disc or adjust the burning speed as desired. Normally the system will use your CD drive's optimum speed as default. Once you have satisfied with alll options, click "Burn" to record data to your Disc.
  6. Nero will start the "Burning" process. Follow the prompt to finish your project.
  7. To make a data DVD, follow the same procedure expect Step 3. Choose Data > Make Data DVD instead of Data CD.
