About UsThe School of Civil Engineering was one of the foundation Schools of the University when UNSW was first established in 1949. The School is a dynamic and integral part of the Faculty of Engineering. Today, it is one of the largest and most successful Schools of its type in Australia. MissionOur mission is to produce graduates and conduct research and development of international distinction to meet the needs of the discipline, industry and society both locally and internationally. ManagementThe School is managed by the Head of School, assisted by the Senior Administrative Officer, a Senior Management Group, and by various other management committees. Each committee has a Director who reports to the Head of School. For more information about the School Management, please visit 'School Management' page. TeachingWe play a leading role in the delivery of undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs in Civil and Environmental Engineering; and attracts local and rural students in New South Wales and also have a significant contingent of overseas students mainly from the South East Asian Region. Our programs aim to develop well-educated graduates with the basic skills, attributes and knowledge that will enable them to practice as professional civil or environmental engineers. ResearchResearch activity in our School is carried out by School staff and by postgraduate students working towards their research degrees. Furthermore, undergraduate students also play a significant role in research undertaking their final year Honours thesis. The range of research projects undertaken within the School covers all the sub-disciplines of Civil and Environmental Engineering and includes both fundamental and applied research. Further information about our research is available at our 'Research' section in this web site. LocationWe are located at UNSW Kensington campus, in the Civil Engineering Building (H20) and in the Vallentine Annexe (H22). We have two major off-campus facilities; the Water Research Laboratory at Manly Vale and the Heavy Structures Laboratory at the Randwick Sub-Campus.
